Serratula tinctoria var. seoanei is a little gem yet almost unknown S. tinctoria var. seoanei despite a handicapping name is bound to please with its neat ,deeply cut, dark, almost blackish green foliage and erect, wiry stems to 45cm, bearing uneven flowerheads of masses of smallish mauve-purple thistle-shaped flowers very late in summer and autumn coming just when you thought there would be nothing more to enjoy. Compact and poised.
