Cryptotaenia japonica purpurea is a small, hardy perennial plant that forms a small clump adorned with three-lobed, toothed leaves that are purple and turn chocolate brown with metallic highlights. Dark, slender floral stems appear in summer, bearing tiny pinkish-lilac flowers.
Prefers partial shade and soil rich in humus, light, not drying out, but not waterlogged.
